Alfonso Borghese | Musicista

Biography

Born in Florence, Alfonso Borghese  studied  the music and the art of the guitar at the Conservatorio “L.Cherubini” of  Florence, under the guide of Alvaro Company. He also attended humanistic studies.

He later followed a two years Masterclass held by Maestro Company at the American University of Villa Schifanoia (Rosary College, Illinois).

In 1968 and 1969 he was in Santiago de Compostela in Spain to study with Andrès Segovia and Josè Tomàs.

In 1978 he started a tour in the U.S.A. with a recital at the Carnegie Hall in New York.

Since 1968 he devoted to teaching: he was appointed first in the Conservatorio of Pesaro, then in that of Bologna. He is at present teacher in the Conservatorio “L.Cherubini” of Florence.

Since 1989 he holds every year an eight months Masterclass at the Scuola di Musica di Fiesole, the most  prestigious institution of higher musical studies in Italy.

In 1969 he founded with Roberto Frosali and Vincenzo Saldarelli the Trio Chitarristico Italiano,an unusual chamber ensemble that performed all over the world and has recorded three L.P. , a CD and a DVD.  (oppure the first instrumental group of its kind in the world)

Alfonso Borghese is at times active also as a conductor and in this field he owns is formation to Mario Salerno and later to Franco Ferrara of whom he has been a disciple at the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena from 1978 to 1980.

He has studied Composition with Carlo Prosperi in the Conservatorio “L.Cherubini” andwith Paolo Fragapane.

He has composed music scores for plays by Brecht, Majakovskij, Bulgakov, Feydeau, Nando Vitali and Carlo Martinelli.

With Stefano Martinelli he has composed the musical “Polly, ovvero l’opera del milionario”, which was performed several times.

He has held courses of History of Music in the Università Libera of Florence.
